Visiting Barbican

Barbican lies in the city of London and is known for being a location of historical importance in the city’s history. Named after the Latin word ‘Barbecana’ meaning ‘gateway’, Barbican is the site of part of the great wall of London.  This was used in ancient times to guard the city against invaders, and visitors to the area can still see parts of the preserved original wall. The modern day Barbican district is primarily a financial and business hub that also includes the Barbican Centre on Silk Street, a performing arts powerhouse,  that features theatrical performances and exhibitions amongst other things.  Barbican is well served for hotels, with both The Montcalm at the Brewery and Citadines Barbican being in the area along with the popular and slighly lower budget Thistle City Barbican Hotel.
