Visiting Marlborough
Marlborough, a small market town in Wiltshire, has one of the widest high streets in the country, which featured in the 1988 British Airways Air Miles launch advert. The imposing Town Hall stands at one end of the High Street which hosts twice weekly markets. Marlborough High Street is also home to a range of boutique shops, and independent cafes including The Polly Tea Rooms which opened in 1912.
Located on the edge of the town, Marlborough College is an independent co-educational boarding school for pupils aged 13-18. The school was founded in 1843 to educate sons of the clergy of the Church of England, and was the first major British Independent boys’ school to allow girls to attend the sixth form. Marlborough College boasts a Nobel Laureate, writers, poets and journalists among its past students.
Founded in 1888, Marlborough Golf Club is situated on Marlborough Common. The club welcomes both members and visitors, and is considered one of the best courses in Wiltshire. Other popular places to visit nearby include Savernake Forest, Avebury Stone Circle, and the Marlborough White Horse.
